Phone Cards are back, I say. As collectors items at least. Once upon a time, millions of people around the world were collecting them. Apparently, over 2 million were collecting cards at the height of what was more or less a craze. My parents included. It seems that the craze began after novelty cards started hitting the shelves. I remember special edition sets being advertised on TV, luring aspiring collectors into purchasing them as an investment. They were a hit! Where previously cards had been a means to an end, a convenient utility for people to make a call – companies started to produce cards with more flair.

Kelly Singer began collecting Toasters 35 years ago. At 82, he has a Toaster Museum.
“The first toaster in his collection was one like his mother’s that he spied at an antique-type mall in the Dallas area when he was visiting his son 35 years ago.
“Several months later, I saw another one a little different” and thought it would be good to have a pair, he said. “Collectors always kid each other that if you have two of anything, you’re a collector. From there, it just got out of hand. I never stopped. That’s the fun part of it.”
